Bottled water is generally seen as healthier and better-tasting than tap water. However, this is not necessarily the case. After all, bottled water may come from a natural spring or may simply be tap water that has been filtered!

The filtering is likely to remove the chlorine that water treatment plants add. This can be said to be better for your health and will certainly affect the flavor.

Fortunately, there are three things you can do at home to get water that tastes as good as bottled water, every time.

Fit A Water Filter

The first step in making your tap water taste as good as bottled water is to purchase a water filter. There are several options available on the market. It’s advisable to speak to a specialist in water filters Sydney before purchasing. This will ensure you get the right one for your needs.

The most commonly chosen water filters are carbon, these are very effective at removing odors and improving the taste of your water. They also remove chemicals, particularly chlorine that is added at the treatment plant.

It should be noted that chlorine is very effective at killing bacteria, it’s a useful additive but can be harmful to humans and certainly changes the taste. Removing it is a good idea.

Of course, if you’re in a hard water area and you want to remove some of the minerals the carbon filter may not be the best option. You may wish to consider reverse osmosis. Again, the specialist can help you choose the right one.

Cool It

While you’re considering which filter is best, whether to have a whole house or single tap system and how much it’s going to cost you; you can cool your water.

Simply place a jug of tap water in the refrigerator and leave it to cool. This will increase the level of oxygen in the water and the coldness will detract from any mineral taste.

It will taste better but you can improve the taste further by letting the water sit at room temperature before you cool it. This will allow some of the chlorine to dissolve. Just don’t leave it sitting too long as it will go stale!

Boil It

Boiling the water can improve it’s flavor because you’ll be adding the boiling water to tea leaves or even coffee granules! But, boiling water can also remove many of the minerals in it. This will improve the flavor although you may prefer the water to cool again before you drink it.

In fact, boiling is one of the best ways to make water safe to drink when you’re lost in the wilderness, that’s always useful to know.

It is important to note that boiling does not remove heavy metals. If you have a high concentration of heavy metals then boiling will eliminate the minerals and make the heavy metal concentration stronger, that’s not good for your taste buds or your stomach.
