Relationship Between Sleep Disorder and Testosterone Levels

The importance of getting a good night’s sleep can never be over emphasised even though it may seem like a luxury some people cannot afford because there are quite a large number of variables that affect one’s quality of sleep.

While diet and lifestyle can have a direct impact on several other factors like hormones play a major role in affecting one’s quality of sleep.

The primary male sex hormone is testosterone, and it tends to increase when a man is having a sound sleep. So the question now is if a good sleep increases testosterone or a high level of testosterone causes one to have a good sleep.

That is quite a complicated question to answer, but in this article, we will be looking at the relationship between testosterone in men and sleeping disorder.

How testosterone levels impact sleep quality?

A person’s level of testosterone tends to change throughout the day in a circadian manner. After a person must have had 90 minutes of sleep, his level of testosterone will increase gradually and get to its peak where it will remain until the person wakes up.

In younger men the level of testosterone gets to its peak during rapid eye movement sleep this is usually after 90 minutes, and they tend to remain elevated during the course of the sleep for middle-aged men and men that are older it takes more time for their testosterone to reach its peak.

Some studies have linked low testosterone levels to sleep deprivation, and there also is evidence that has directly linked low levels of testosterone to sleep disorders such as sleep apnea.

What can be done?

There are a few things you can do to increase your testosterone level

1. Weight training any form of resistance or weight training has been discovered to increase testosterone levels in men across all ages.

Some research showed that some particular types of exercise like bench presses, squats, and deadlifts help to boost testosterone levels.

This means that engaging in regular exercise will not only cause the release of endorphins which will improve your general mood and endurance capabilities, but will also promote the release of testosterone which will improve your quality of sleep.

2. Testosterone booster

Different health benefits have been associated with the use of test boosters from decreasing body mass to increasing energy levels it also promotes and improves a person’s quality of sleep while at the same time improving your confidence and mood as an added advantage.

More amazing is that there are studies that confirm how testosterone supplements can provide you with a good quality of night sleep.

3. Consider Zinc/Magnesium tablets

Zinc and magnesium tablets are usually called ZMA, and they are great at encouraging quality sleep what ZMA does is to support your immune system and help you manage your sleep better.

4. Check if you have sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a very worrisome sleep disorder, and it happens when a person stops breathing for a short period While they are asleep. One of the signs of sleep apnea is snoring. If a person is dealing with sleep apnea, in that case, a testosterone therapy will not be useful.

In such a situation, the best option will be to consult a medical professional who will recommend mouthpieces, CPAP, or other snoring aids depending on the condition.

Well, several studies have been able to confirm that there is a link between low testosterone levels and poor quality of sleep it is also important that you know there are different other factors that can affect your quality of sleep.
