Hospital Bag

It’s surely an exciting task for any expecting mother but could leave you quite confused. Since, I am packing my hospital bag as a second-time mom, I thought, it could be useful to share a few tips that might be useful to many!!

When Should You Be Ready?

Earlier the better, especially if you have any history of pre-term deliveries. It’s a good idea to get the basics in place by the 7th month and the remaining can come into place by the start of the 9th month.

Mommy List

  • 3 nighties designed for nursing. Nighties work well even if you have had a C-section.
  • 5 nursing bras
  • 5 high-waist panties
  • Extra large sanitary napkins- most hospitals do provide them but it’s best to have what works for you.
  • A pack of breast pads
  • Button down shirts and comfortable pants
  • Feeding cloak
  • Toiletries
  • Towel
  • Slippers
  • A good quality camera which can do without flash
  • Feeding Pillow
  • Breast Pump
  • All your medical reports with regards to the pregnancy. Some will be mandatory like blood group, HIV etc. Check with your hospital.
  • A nice pair of clothes for the day of your discharge from hospital.
  • Diaper bag for the day of discharge.

If your hospital is going to provide their clothes during your stay, you will not need to pack nighties, button down shirts and pants.

For The Newborn

Again, you need to check whether the hospital dresses the baby in their clothes or you need to carry them along.

  • 6-8 new born shirts
  • Baby caps
  • Swaddling Cloths
  • Receiving blankets
  • Blankets
  • Napkins
  • Nappies and diapers
  • Burp Cloths
  • Full set of clothes etc for the day of discharge.
  • Basic toiletries depending on what the hospital provides.

For Your Ride to The Hospital

  • A plastic to cover the car seat. Water bag bursts can be really messy.
  • Sanitary Napkins
  • Face and hand towels
  • All your emergency phone numbers
  • Hospital receipt
