Everybody is going loco about it. In fact, it has become a staple in Paleo diet, beauty, and medical realm. Yes, we’re referring to organic coconut oil. It is the new talk of the town. And it’s not just a marketing strategy by a brand or company. It’s the real thing!

From moisturizing the skin to improving oral health, apparently, one little jar can do a lot of things! If all this hasn’t convinced you yet, here are the many benefits and uses of organic coconut oil.

1. It is a God-sent for those who wish to lose weight

Researchers have found out that coconut oil can help get rid of those excess fats. Thanks to the Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) and Capric acids found in this oil, energy usage among humans is increased up to 5 percent.

There was one study conducted in which women who consumed about 2 tablespoons of this oil every day for 12 weeks did not gain added weight, but also became less prone to heart problems.

2. It helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease

When MCTs are digested in the liver, ketones are created. These are energy forms that are needed by the brain. Though the brain produces insulin to give power to the brain cells, it may eventually lose its ability in the long run. Don’t worry though. If that happens, there are always alternate sources of energy to assist the brain in its functions.

3. It moisturizes and nourishes the skin

For centuries now, organic coconut oil has been used in the skin. It’s because it has moisturizing properties that leave the skin smooth and baby soft. Also, its antioxidant content makes it ideal for preventing wrinkles and skin irritation.

When placed at room temperature, this product usually takes solid form. However, as soon as it comes into contact with body heat, it’ll melt quickly. So to apply, scoop about a pea-sized of the oil into your hands and then rub it in a circular motion onto your face. Let it sit for at least five minutes before wiping it off.

4. It is great for cooking

Because it is stable and doesn’t react immediately to high temperatures, coconut oil has been widely used in cooking and baking. Also, it has incredible nutritional value, making it great for baking pastries, stir fries, and even the simplest eggs.

5. It improves oral health

Does oil pulling ever ring a bell? Well, before even toothpaste was introduced, coconut oil was swished around the mouth to get rid of all the bacteria. The method is called oil pulling, which surprisingly is being practiced until now.

Research suggests that oil pulling can also help heal the effects caused by periodontal disease. With the help of the MCTs, the bacteria residing on the surface of the mouth are lifted. Hence, experts highly recommend to do oil pulling at least thrice a week for 20 minutes. 6. It offers protection to the hair

Regardless of your hair type, be grateful. Coconut oil can be used to combat damage brought about by external factors. Compared to other oils used in the hair, this has significantly greater impact on preventing protein loss. If you’re asking why, the answer is simple. The structure of coco oil is somewhat preventative. The hair proteins are attracted to the oil and its small sizes makes it easily penetrate into the hair shaft.

7. It kills harmful microorganisms

Almost half of the fatty acid content of coconut oil is Lauric acid. Once it is digested, it turns into a substance called monolaurin, which is known to get rid and kill harmful pathogens, such as fungi, viruses, and bacteria.

8. It regulates blood cholesterol levels

It is given that coconut oil contains healthy saturated fats. These fats can effectively increase the good cholesterols in the body and at the same time, transform the bad ones into something less harmful.

Obviously, organic coconut oil deserves to be called a superfood. Come to think of this. Even if you have a jar of this oil, you get to enjoy all these benefits. Is there any other ingredient as better than that?
