What Treatments Are Available?
For men and women suffering from baldness, there are many treatment options available depending on the nature and extent of your hair loss. Generally, these can be broken down into surgical and non-surgical treatments.
Surgical Treatments
For patients whose hair loss has progressed beyond Norwood Stage 3 and/or has been stable for some years, a surgical hair transplant represents the only truly permanent solution for combatting hair loss. The most popular and effective types of hair restoration surgery are FUE and DHI.
FUE Hair Transplants
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the most common method for hair transplantation. Using the FUE technique, hair follicles are removed from a donor area (typically at the back of the head) in individual grafts or as multiple follicles. These are briefly stored in a special solution while all of the hair grafts are prepared. These grafts are then implanted into channels created in the recipient area. DHI Hair Trasnplansts
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is one of the newest transplant techniques available for hair restoration treatment
. It is a modified version of the FUE technique and combines extraction and implantation into a single step. During a DHI transplant, hair follicles are first extracted from the donor area before being directly embedded into the recipient area without the need for incisions. This is achieved by the use of a Choi implanter pen and allows for more accurate placement of hair follicles and a more natural final result.
Non-Surgical Treatments

LLLT Laser Hair Therapy
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT, also known as cold-laser or infrared-light therapy) is a hair restoration treatment available to men and women dealing with androgenetic alopecia (male/female pattern baldness). While high-energy lasers can damage tissues, low-level lasers have been shown to stimulate cell activity. LLLT is effective at prolonging anagen (growth phase), stimulating reactivation of anagen from telogen (resting phase), and preventing early entry of catagen (transition phase). This leads to existing hair growing thicker, and lasting longer. Further, this can cause hair follicles that previously produced vellus hair to once again begin producing terminal hair.
PRP Treatment
Platelet-Rich Protein (PRP) therapy is based on the proven practice of using a patient’s own plasma to stimulate hair growth in the existing hair follicles. By extracting platelet-rich protein from the patient’s plasma via a centrifuge, doctors are able to inject this plasma directly into the scalp of a patient as a way of combating thinning hair or hair loss.
