CoolSculpting

There are many reasons why a person could be described as fat. It could be due to a medical condition, bad diet, lack of exercise or a combination of factors.

Losing weight is never an easy thing to do, and even though some people may follow a strict diet and take regular exercise, there is still fat on their body which doesn’t seem to shift, no matter what they try.

This type of fat is known as persistent or stubborn fat, and is one that is very difficult to get rid without a little extra help. CoolSculpting is a relatively new procedure that has taken the world by storm over the past few years.

It is a technique that was originally devised by two Bostonian doctors and involves the freezing of fat cells.

What exactly is CoolSculpting?

Though the name may sound like some form of ice sculpture, it’s actually a technique that is very popular with people all around the world to help them shift stubborn fat from areas of the body such as the stomach, back, arms and thighs. It involves a freezing process where fat cells are exposed to freezing temperatures which kill them.

The great thing with this technique is that it is a completely non-invasive procedure and one where the results can be permanent, providing you maintain your weight and follow a healthy diet and take regular exercise.

In this article we will look at the best ways to recover from CoolSculpting if you decide to undergo the procedure.

What can it do?

The first thing to point out is that CoolSculpting is not a way to completely remove fat from the body. It is not a method of weight loss or to help with obesity.

It’s sole purpose is to help remove pockets of stubborn fat that regular exercise and a healthy diet have been unable to do. The technique has been approved for specific areas of the body, and it’s not a procedure that anyone can do. You’ll need to first speak with a specialist to check that you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

Cryolipolysis is the technique that is used in CoolSculpting and is an FDA-approved treatment. Using a device similar to a vacuum, suction is applied to the area that the patient wants to target, and cooling plates are used to reduce the temperature of the fat cells.

Following this deep freezing, the fat cells will start to die, and your immune system will naturally dispose of them over the following months.

What are the results like?

The full results of a CoolSculpting procedure won’t be totally visible until after 4-6 months. The procedure will eventually lead to a 20% reduction in fat in the area that it has targeted.

Adults do not grow new fat cells, so once the ones that have been targeted have died, they do not come back.

It’s important that you manage your weight carefully and not put on any excess weight through either an unhealthy diet or the lack of exercise. The results of CoolSculpting will only be as effective as you are strict when it comes to your diet and lifestyle.

Are there any side effects?

As the procedure is a non-invasive one, there is no damage done to the skin or any of your underlying tissues. Some patients have felt some small side effects such as swelling around the targeted area, as well as itching and some soreness. However, these symptoms do not last more than a few days.

There is the possibility of a delayed pain reaction that some individuals have reported. This is something that can appear 5 days or so after the procedure has taken place. Again, the symptoms are not too strong, and are often described as a mild burning sensation, which does disappear by itself after a few days.

A Quicker Recovery after the procedure

As there is no recovery period due to the nature of the procedure, you can be back to your normal daily routines just hours after having the treatment. Lots of people have scheduled the procedure to take place in the morning, and then they return back to work in the afternoon.

If you are someone who enjoys sports or other physical activities, then it might be wise to take a break for a couple of days after having the procedure, though there are some people who can jump right back into their usual workouts.

It’s also suggested to try and drink a lot of water after having the procedure as it can help with the flushing out of the dead fat cells from your body. If you do notice that you’ve developed some side effects or persistent symptoms after undergoing a CoolSculpting procedure, it would be wise to speak to a specialist just to check that it is nothing serious.
