What is Dental Fillings and why it’s Necessary

To begin with, let’s go back on the day you were born. As a new born infant, there were no harmful bacteria inside mouth. As you became older and became the toddler, bacteria found its way into your mouth. It could have happened when your mom or dad kissed you or whenever you licked the floor as being a baby. In any scenario, those bacteria have now setup a permanent residence of your mouth and you will need to deal with them for the rest of your life.

These bacteria continue to exist in your teeth since they already have an apartment there. Every time you take in something that they take pleasure in eating, such as sugary snacks or chocolate, you provide food for the kids (The bacterial). Feeding these little creatures doesn’t sound so bad, but trust me it is as soon as they eat, they produce a really strong acid that eats away at your teeth. If you don’t remove this sticky layer of bacteria (commonly often known as plaque) by brushing and flossing, the bacteria helps keep destroying a tiny quantity of your tooth structure every single day until you get a hole in your tooth. These holes are known by many labels, such as tooth corrosion, cavities, and dental caries.

This is where Dental Fillings Comes in

Dental fillings are employed to repair teeth and treat tooth decay. Normally, either amalgam (‘silver’) or tooth-coloured fillings are employed. Modern amalgam fillings are long-lasting, cheap and safe for many people. However, suitable alternatives are recommended for use through pregnancy, breastfeeding, for children the ones with kidney disease.

There are different types of materials that can be used in filling teeth

Gold fillings:

Gold fillings are built to order in a laboratory after which it cemented into place. Platinum inlays are well tolerated by simply gum tissues, and may last over 20 years. For these kind of reasons, many authorities consider gold the very best filling material. However, it’s the most expensive option and requires multiple visits to your dentist

Amalgam (silver):

fillings are resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive. However, because of the dark color, they will be more noticeable than porcelain or composite restorations and are also not usually used in very visible areas, like front teeth.

Composite (plastic):

resins are matched to become the same color as your teeth and therefore used where a normal appearance is desired. The ingredients are mixed and placed straight into the cavity. Composites may not are the ideal material for large fillings since they may chip or wear as time passes. They can also become stained from coffee, tea or tobacco, and do not last so long as other types of fillings commonly from three to a decade.

Porcelain fillings:

are known as inlays or onlays and are also produced to order inside a lab and then bonded on the tooth. They can be matched on the color of the tooth and resist staining. A porcelain restoration generally covers almost the entire tooth. Their cost is comparable to gold fillings.
