Apparently there are many types of arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis that mostly affects people suffering from psoriasis. This condition can have severe symptoms which can be managed through treatments. There are many treatments to manage the various symptoms of psoriatic arthritis and their complications. As time goes by new treatments which are an improvement of the others or work together come in.

Otzela, oral treatment for arthritis

Otzela which is an oral treatment for psoriatic arthritis is the latest. Otzela treatment is administered on people with active psoriatic arthritis to manage inflammation by easing the swelling and encouraging joint tenderness. It works by inhibiting the action of an enzyme known as PDE4. These enzyme is the one responsible the different inflammation levels. PDE4 influences inflammation within the cell in the joints. Thus the technique behind Otzela treatment is the regulation of the inflammation in the cells. The drug is in form of a tablet and is taken on a regular basis for better results. The Otzela tablet is a 30-milligram dosage. For a daily dosage two tablets are taken. After the first five days of taking the tablets, the dosage increases. This is until the psoriatic arthritis patient meets the dosage recommended by the doctor. The side effects of Otzela occur within the first few weeks of usage and they continue to improve with time. This includes; headaches, diarrhea and nausea.

The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

These are very effective drugs. They can work within hours to improve the symptoms. NSAIDs treat psoriatic arthritis by preventing inflammation in the joint walls. They tackle joint pains well and stiffness which are the common symptoms of arthritis. The medication has to be prescribed by a doctor. Use of NSAIDs come with some side effects. For instance you might experience problems with digestion after taking the NSAIDs for some time. A doctor will give you a drug known as (PPI) plump proton inhibitor which helps shield your digestive tract. Other side effects are high probability for stroke and heart attacks. Your rheumatologist will first cross examine your condition before giving you this medication. Some people are more prone to the side effects like the diabetic people, smokers and people with problems of blood flow or high blood pressure.

Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs)

DMARDs psoriatic arthritis treatments exist in a wide range of variety. It is for your rheumatologist to prescribe the treatment according to your condition. The latest disease-modifying treatment is the biological therapies. They are administered through injection or orally by use of drips. These treatments are prescribed to you by a doctor after you have used other DMARDs and they did not work well.

DMARDS act on psoriatic arthritis by directly dealing with inflammation causes. These treatments avoid the worsening of your condition by inhibiting any progression of the arthritis. After prescription, you have to be patient as the drugs may take a little bit longer for them to have a significant effectiveness on your condition.

Just like other drugs, the DMARDs have some side effects on your body. Some tests on blood and urine have to be taken to find out the side effects or effectiveness of the drugs. The drugs mostly have effects on the liver, kidney and may also affect your blood count.

Surgical repair

This is done on rare basis to correct damages in the joints. For instance, when the tendon is damaged a surgery is done to repair it. In some cases exposure to joint inflammation for a long period of time might render the joint damaged. A replacement is done with surgery. Surgery can also involve treatment of the skin. This will involve antibiotic treatment.

Skin treatments

Most treatments for psoriasis also help in treating the skin. On the other hand, some skin treatments can also improve arthritis. Most of the skin treatments are in ointment form. They are to curb skin dryness, manage the rapidly growing skin, deals with itchiness and scaling among many other symptoms. These are mostly topical treatments recommended by a doctor and can be found over the counter.

Among the treatments are: Tar an extract of coal. Ointments with tar serve to manage skin cells growth, ease inflammation and improve skin complexion. Topical steroid is used for easing psoriasis of the scalp. Phototherapy session treatment for managing the skin cells growth. Dithranol-based ointments used to tackle the processes that result in rapid skin cells growth. Other skin treatments include Vitamin A and D ointments and tablets.
