Drinking an excessive amount of alcohol on a daily basis can negatively impact your personal and professional life, while simultaneously deteriorating your health. Within this guide, you will learn about some of the health and personal problems, which can stem from consuming alcohol in excess.

Increases The Risk Of Cancer:

The risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption are enormous, but some are more obvious than others. Many people are completely unaware of the fact that cancer has been linked to habitual alcohol drinking. Research shows that alcohol converts into acetaldehyde in the body.

This potential carcinogen is responsible for increasing the patient’s risk of developing cancer. If the patient also smokes cigarettes or cigars, their risks will be increased even more dramatically.

Even worse is the fact that cancer linked with alcohol has been found in the mouth, liver, breast, larynx, and the pharynx. Therefore, it is generally best to drink irregularly and moderately.

Decreases Red Blood Cells:

Another thing to remember is that drinking alcohol heavily can cause a dramatic change in your blood cells. When you drink too much, the quantity of red blood cells, which are responsible for carrying oxygen to the organs, will drop substantially.

This can lead directly to anemia. And of course, this particular ailment can be immensely impactful. It can result in light headedness, fatigue and shortness of breath. If you notice a combination of these symptoms, it is pertinent to consult with your primary doctor as soon as possible!

Liver Cirrhosis:

Again, some of the alcohol diseases are better known than others. Liver cirrhosis is one that the mass majority of consumers have heard of at some point or another. Of course, this doesn’t make the condition any better. In fact, cirrhosis can sometimes be life threatening. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can damage the liver.

If this behavior is carried on for a prolonged period of time, the liver can become scarred to the point that is can no longer capable of operating effectively. Researchers suggest that women are more susceptible to this condition than men.

It is no secret that dementia is a life-altering disease. Dementia is thought to be linked to the shrinking of the brain. Researchers believe this to be entirely normal, with the average rate of shrinkage being around 1.9% for each decade. Of course, drinking larger amounts of alcohol can speed up the shrinkage substantially. At the same time, alcohol will lead to shrinkage of key areas of the brain that are responsible for storing memories.

This is why it is believed that consuming too much alcohol over the duration of your life can actually result in dementia. Even if the patient doesn’t contract dementia, the results will be obvious. Heavy drinkers tend to have a more difficult time solving problems and making judgment calls.

Could Cause Seizures:

Another thing to remember is that doctors believe heavy drinking can lead to epilepsy. This specific condition can result in seizures. And, it is also thought that drinking too much over a period of time can lead to seizures, even if the patient doesn’t suffer from epilepsy.

This problem is complicated even further by the fact that heavy drinking can actually decrease the effectiveness of prescription drugs, which are used to combat convulsions. Therefore, many heavy drinkers will suffer from frightening seizures, without any suitable treatment.

Alcohol is capable of impacting the mind in more ways than one. Many patients, who drink a lot of alcohol, will also suffer from depression. Some suggest that the depression comes first, but this not always the case. And regardless, it is important to note that drinking can intensify depression. In severe cases, the patient may begin to experience suicidal ideations.
