Sure, the more oil is produced to lube the skin, the less rapid the aging process is, and oily-skinned people find it easier to have a nice tan.

However, most people would find the disadvantages rather than the advantages, and so the quest for smooth, normal skin begins with seemingly no end in sight. Luckily, some remedies to keep your oily skin in check could be found in your kitchen! Read on to find out 6 popular and effective homemade masks, straight from your kitchen to give your skin the firming and glowing effect.

Bentonite Clay Mask

Bentonite clay is a well-known ingredient to absorb the excess oil from your skin and pull out the dirt from open pores. Moreover, it helps to reduce pimple size, shrink large pores, and reduce inflammation of the active pimples.

Directions:

  • At room temperature, mix 2 tbsp the clay with enough purified water to form a thick paste.
  • Apply this mask to the face with a brush or your hands until the whole face is covered, except for the eyes and lips area.
  • After 10 – 15 minutes or when you feel the mask is getting dry and tight on your skin, wash off with warm water and pat your face dry.

Clay, Raw Honey, And Cucumber Mask

The moisture from fresh cucumber, the anti-inflammatory properties of bentonite clay, and the antibacterial properties of raw honey help this a perfect mask to fight against pimples without being too harsh on your skin.

Directions:

  • At room temperature, mix 1 tbsp honey with ½ mashed cucumber (without the skin) and then add 1 tsp bentonite clay to it. Mix them well to create a thick paste. Add more clay if you desire a thicker paste.
  • Apply the mask to your face with a brush or your hands, leaving out the eyes and lips area. (You can smear some cucumber juice onto your lips for that full, moisturized pouting lips!)
  • After 15 – 20 minutes or when you feel the mask is getting tight, wash off with warm water.
  • Pat your face dry.

Raw Honey And Lemon Juice

Raw honey is an excellent antibacterial ingredient to help reduce inflammation of acne breakouts, while lemon juice has been found to fade dark spots after acne has subsided. However, note that lemon juice might make your skin more sensitive to the sun and more susceptible to being sun burnt. So, you should apply this mask no more than 3 times per week and apply sunscreen to the skin after using the mask.

Directions:

  • At room temperature, squeeze out half a lemon and add 3-5 drops of honey, mix them until the honey is fully dissolved into the lemon juice
  • Apply the mask to your face with a brush or your hands, leaving out the eyes and lips area. Do not let the lemon juice get into your eyes to avoid a burning sensation.
  • After 10 minutes, wash off carefully with cool water and pat your face dry.

Lemon And Yogurt Mask

The citric acid in lemons (which gives them the slightly tangy and sour taste) is wonderful in controlling the oil secretion and reduce excess oil on your face. Besides, the lactic acid in yogurt is a natural exfoliant that could slough off dead skin cells and exfoliate deep down the pores to prevent acne breakouts.

As usual, lemons can increase your photosensitivity (the sensitivity to sunlight), so you should take extra caution by not going out in the sun right after usage, slap on an oil-free sunscreen, and use this mask once or twice per week at night only.

Directions:

  • Squeeze out the lemons to get 2 tbsp of fresh lemon juice. For a better effect, refrigerate the juice so that you get the fresh, cool feeling with the mask on the skin.
  • Mix the lemon juice with 2 tbsp of unsweetened, unflavored yogurt and then stir well with a wooden spoon or a hand blender.
  • Apply the mask evenly to your face, avoiding the eyes and lips area.
  • Wash it off with warm water.

Turmeric, Milk, And Lemon Mask

Lemon and milk have boasted of being the best beauty ingredients to exfoliate the skin and clear excess oil gently. For ages, the Indians have used turmeric in food and homemade masks to get clear, healthy skin. While turmeric is not a popular oil controlling ingredient, its anti-acne and antibacterial properties help reduce the frequency of a pimple and reduce the size of active acne.
The turmeric might stain your skin with yellow, so it is better to use this mask in the evenings for 2-3 times per week.

Directions:

  • Mix ½ tsp of turmeric powder (as finely ground as possible) with 2 tbsp of gram flour and ¼ cup of milk. Stir them well
  • When the above ingredients are well-mixed, slowly add lemon juice. Stir well.
  • Apply the mask evenly to your face, avoiding the eyes and lips area.
  • Wash it off with warm water.

Oats And Avocado

Who doesn’t love oatmeal or avocados on toast for a perfectly balanced breakfast? Ground oats and avocados are not only good for your gut health, but also for clearing the oil and sucking up impurities from your skin pores because they are highly absorbent ingredients. The essential fats from avocados are super moisturizing for your skin, while the oats act as a gentle physical exfoliant without being too harsh on your skin.

Directions:

  • Soak ¼ cup of oats in warm or cool water. Let them soak for 5 minutes.
  • Mash ½ of a ripe avocado in a separate bowl or use a hand blender so that the avocado meat becomes mushy.
  • Stir the mashed avocado into the oat bowl, mix them well.
  • Add some honey or water if the consistency is too thick.
  • Apply the mask evenly to your face, avoiding the eyes and lips area.
  • Wash it off with warm water.
