Stress is prevalent in our everyday lives. Worrying about the kids, worrying about elderly parents or grandparents, job security, debt or related money issues, the list just seems to go on and on.

Often, stress is caused as a result of overly worrying about things over which you have no control, which just compounds the stress build-up.

However, there is one thing you can control, and that is what you do with your life on a day-to-day basis. Planning for the future is something we all have to do, and sometimes the plans we made do not go as we would have liked. But managing time on a day-to-day basis, mapping out our days can help relieve stress – we all need routine in our lives.

Perhaps the one simple mistake we all make is that we do not allow ourselves as much time as we should for a rest, a little bit of relaxation or an indulgence of some kind.

Here are three ways in which we can set aside some time, relax a little, self indulge and have some well deserved ‘me’ time.

Have a massage

Once a month, maybe a little more frequently if it is affordable, treat yourself to a relaxing all over massage at a spa. It doesn’t have to be a fancy five star resort which costs a fortune just to get inside the doors.

Why not investigate if there are masseurs who make home visits – a massage in your own home, during the day when the kids are at school can be organised around your daily schedule.

Play some games

No, I’m not saying tiddlywinks or Monopoly but games which you can download to your phone or pad.

Games such as Super Hexagon, NetBet casino, or Pokemon Go are a few examples of games that you can play on your phone, pad, or laptop and are flexible so you can play anytime the mood strikes.

A little bit of escapism is a great stress buster, and combined with a little fun will put a smile on your face and eradicate the frown.

Exercise regularly

You do not have to join a gym or sports center to exercise, neither do you need to buy expensive trainers or another kit. Set aside half an hour a day three or four days a week and take a brisk walk.

Do a few laps of your local park, walk to the shops and make a point of walking to your destination rather than using the car or taking the bus. If you can, walk to and from work – if that is not possible, make a point of taking a brisk walk at lunch time

Maintaining a healthy balance in life is a way of relieving stress and, if you rigidly set aside time every day of the week for yourself, eventually it will become a habit.

A healthy life, a stress-free life with a little of what you really like is a great recipe for busting stress, feeling happier and more content.
