The Potential of Cannabis for Endocrine Disorders
Over recent years, the medicinal potential of marijuana has begun to be realised. More and more states and countries are legalising marijuana for medicinal purposes as the scientific evidence base for its use increases. Marijuana is now helping countless people across the globe combat debilitating symptoms of disorders that affect their quality of life. Recent research suggests that marijuana may have some ability to fight endocrine disorders.
Here we describe what endocrine disorders are, and why marijuana may be useful in trying to treat them. If you are looking to get some marijuana to combat any chronic symptoms, check out www.high-supplies.com.
What are endocrine disorders?
Endocrine disorders are diseases or conditions that affect the human endocrine system. The endocrine system is responsible for creating and discharging hormones that regulate different body functions. Hormones control numerous body functions and endocrine disorders therefore can have many different debilitating effects. These can range from changing how our body grows, to sexual dysfunction and ability to have a child, to diabetes and thyroid problems.
Endocrine disorders generally fall under two categories: those that occur when too much or too little of an endocrine hormone I produced, causing an imbalance; and those that occur when lesions or tumours appear in the endocrine system. Typically, tumours in the endocrine system are noncancerous but they may influence the ability for hormone regulation.
How may marijuana help?
Cannabinoids in marijuana are similar to the human body’s own endocannabinoids. This means that cannabinoids can bind to endocannabinoid receptors within the body. Marijuana has already been shown to have positive impacts on reducing the symptoms of other disorders by binding to endocannabinoid receptors and changing the inner workings of the body. Endocannabinoid receptors are located within the endocrine system, meaning that marijuana has the potential to also alter the workings of the endocrine system and change hormone balances for the better.
Tumours – Endocannabinoids in the endocrine system has been proven to inhibit tumours of the endocrine system, it is hoped that cannabinoids ability to bind to the same endocannabinoid receptors may have the same effect.
Thyroid – Not much research has been done into this topic yet, but preliminary findings suggest that cannabis can alter the thyroid gland and its production of hormones. It is hoped that this effect can be fine-tuned to aid in the treatment of thyroid disorders.
Symptoms – The symptoms of endocrine disorders include insomnia and anxiety. Cannabinol (CBD) is a cannabinoid found in marijuana that has been proven to be effective at reducing anxiety and easing or curing insomnia.
Marijuana cannabinoids have the right molecular structure to interfere with endocrine disorders. With further research and refinement it is hoped that marijuana will lead the fight against endocrine disorders in the future.
