With our exhausting routines and with heavy technological use; people are often found complaining about joint aches and muscle strains. There are a growing number of muscular and joint related health problems among people.

The reasons may vary from person to person; however, most general causes include: a stressful lifestyle, injuries and accidents. Like any other health problem day to day muscular or joint issues require your attention, because if left unaddressed, these minor issues lead to bigger health problems like: arthritis, bursitis, joint disorders or other such muscular problems.

It is very important for people to know what kind of joint or muscular problems you can face in your day to day life and how you can easily avoid them in order to be ache and strain free. If your pain or muscle problem is not getting back to its normal state, for a long time and starts affecting your lifestyle then it is recommended that you seek help from a doctor or a chiropractic expert.

Strains and Sprains

They are a type of injury that occurs in muscles near joints and bones. When your muscles or the fibrous tissues that make up joints are twisted or pulled then this condition is known as a sprain. Commonly people experience sprains around their ankles. However when the tissue or cord that connects muscles and bones are stretched or torn they are known to be as sprains. A common location for sprain is lower back or the connecting muscle at your thigh’s back.

  1. Pain
  2. Swelling around muscles
  3. Cramps
  4. Muscle soreness
  5. Problem moving your muscle

How to prevent?

To avoid strains and sprains can be prevented by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, a proper diet, exercise and sleep are very important to keep your body functioning properly. If you are already exhausted or tired then then performing an equally tiring activity, like; exercise, lifting of heavy objects or running can also cause strains or sprains. It is suggested that a person avoid over stressing his body when it has already been under pressure.

Wearing uncomfortable shoes is also a common strain and sprain cause; if you wear shoes in which you can walk, run or work properly then there will be less chance of your muscles getting affected by strains or sprains. Sometimes people wake up complaining about a strain or sprain problem, the position you sleep at and your mattress and pillow can be a reason to regular muscle pains and sprains. Sleep in a comfortable position, and make sure your pillow is not the reason for your muscle problems.

Your posture at work can cause regular sprains and strains. It is very important to maintain your posture and sit in a comfortable and muscle/joint friendly position that allows you to perform your activities without any fatigue or joint problems.

When the problem gets big?

Ankle sprains are the most common form of sprains; if you cannot walk properly for a long time then it is recommended that you consult a doctor. If you feel the affected muscle or any other muscle getting numb then also a doctor’s check-up is needed.

The best way to treat normal or first degree sprains and strains is to: PRICE, Protect, Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate.
