We are all aware that there some mouthwatering things we won’t readily put in our mouth regardless of how palatable they look or smell. While others may be consumable, we also try not to take them in excess.
But what about rare cases where we don’t know what product is harmful or not and in what quantity are they hazardous to our health? Let us consider the following;
A 56-year-old man was hospitalised in 2014 with kidney failure caused by excessive consumption of cold tea. He apparently consumed over 16 cups of tea per day every day, and it led to severe consequences and this damaged his kidney. The damage was caused by a chemical present in black tea known as oxalate. There are limits to things the body can take and 3 to 4 cups a day is more than moderate.
A young man learnt the hard way that too much soy sauce in the body can be extremely dangerous when he was rushed into the hospital after he developed a seizure and lost consciousness. He was diagnosed with severe dehydration and a high level of sodium in his body. He was lucky enough not to have developed stroke.
Earlier warnings on the packs of toothpaste say: “Don’t swallow, don’t use more than a pea-size.” This is because most toothpaste contained fluoride which is harmful for human consumption. Ingesting some quantities of fluoride-free toothpaste would likely cause stomach upset, however, swallowing a considerable amount of fluoride-filled toothpaste can be very dangerous and the toxicity can cause stomachache, dizziness, and even death. It is essential you keep it out of the reach of children, so they don’t mistakenly ingest it.
Nutmeg has been known to cause hallucinogen and can cause hallucination. Little quantity of it is OK but very dangerous in high consumption. Not more than 2 two tablespoon is just fine.
Sugar is a significant ingredient in sweet soda and sugar can be a hazardous substance in the human body. Latest informative has that lethal dose of sugar is 0.5 oz for 1lb of body weight. This means that an average male would have to consume about 784 oz of soda in order to get poisoned. Watch your soda consumption.
Ointments for muscle pain
Constant use of creams to relieve pains can be extremely dangerous as the methyl salicylate that the balms contains bores deep into the skin and can very dangerous. Avoid ingesting methyl salicylate ointments through your mouth, rectum, nose or vagina. In cases where this may occur, rinse thoroughly with water.
Side effects may include rashes, extreme burning sensations, may weaken bone, redness, swelling, blisters and may even peel the skin. Consult your doctor immediately if any of this happens.
Consuming about 0.1 lbs of licorice in 2 weeks may lead to severe heart problems if not immediate attention isn’t given. Licorice contains glycyrrhizin, a chemical that can significantly decrease the level of potassium in the body.
Heart failure may occur with an increase in blood pressure, and this may happen when the potassium level in the body decreases.
Seafood lovers need to be extremely careful, especially on the amount of tuna they eat. People know that eating lots of tuna can be dangerous, but only a few know what “a lot” really means. Some of the tunas contain more mercury than others. Depending on a person’s body weight, tuna consumption should be closely monitored, so you don’t put your health at risk. Discuss with your physician on how best to eat your tuna.
