Watermelon is a fruit that has been praised for its many qualities. However, the question that people looking to lose weight might ask is – is watermelon fattening?


One advice a lot of overweight people who try to shed a few pounds get is to cut down their meat consumption and opt for fruits and vegetables instead.

Fruits and vegetables like watermelon, apple and cucumber, etc are commonly added to weight loss food recipes, but some of these fruits and vegetables contain some amount of fat. This explains why one may think about the possibility of watermelon fattening.

Since the fruit in focus here is the watermelon, I’m glad to inform you that it is not fattening, and it’s wonderful for weight loss if you decide to add it to your diet.

Watermelon is a healthy fruit that is filling and contains the right properties to help you lose weight and maintain a healthy shape. Before we go further, remember that watermelon does contain some fat, but it’s only a tiny percentage and nothing worth worrying your pretty head about. Reasons why watermelon isn’t fattening;

1. Watermelon is low in fat


This should have become pretty apparent by now. Your consumption of fat has a very significant influence on weights you lose weight or gain more weight. Watermelon contains only 0.2% fat and no cholesterol at all, which is great news for people who are overweight.

Whenever you see a list of healthy foods for people who are overweight, look carefully and I guarantee you’ll be watermelon somewhere on the list with the least amount of total fat content. This is one evidence that watermelon fattening isn’t actually possible.

2. Watermelon is low in calories

It is no secret that if you sincerely want to lose weight, then you need to get some calorie deficit. This means that you must ensure that you burn more calories than you consume. The easiest way a lot of people burn calories is to exercise, but it is also best you consume fewer calories if you are too lazy to exercise.


For avid calorie counters, this sure offers quite a relief because watermelons are made of 92% water, and as you can already guess, water contains no calories at all. If you’re having a whole cup of delicious fruit and getting a tiny amount of just 46 calories, it is one of the healthiest bargains you’ll ever get.

Even for people who constantly crave sugar, watermelons will give you the satisfaction your nagging sweet tooth needs. Also, it has been discovered that drinking enough water speeds up metabolism and encourages weight loss in obsess people.

When you eat watermelons, you indirectly consume lots of water and help that will go a long way to help you achieve your weight-loss goals. So the result you achieve here is satiation because of the water content and not watermelon fattening.

3. Watermelon reduces fat storage and builds muscles

This is just about the most interesting coincidence as burning fat and building muscles seem to be the goal for most people looking to shed unhealthy weight.

So if you’re a foodie, this simply means that you can eat larger quantities of watermelon, guilt-free! Because watermelon fattening isn’t a factor to consider.
