How to Treat Seasonal Allergies Naturally?

Many people who have seasonal allergies know how difficult it is to deal with it and its symptoms. Some of its symptoms include continuous sneezing, watery eyes and fatigue usually caused by pollen.

While you may want to take medication or visit the doctor, consider treating your allergy naturally. Here are some of the ways on how to treat seasonal allergies naturally.

Treat Allergies Early

Many people think that seasonal allergies begin at the start of the spring season. However, it actually starts much earlier. In fact, pollens can start filling the air once it gets warm after winter.

This means that you should prepare your body for the symptoms around late February and not at the end of March. The symptoms of allergies can last for weeks so  the more you are prepared to deal with it, the better.

Eat Greek Yogurt

If you start getting symptoms related to allergy, you may want to consume Greek yogurt. This might seem a bit strange, but Greek yogurt actually has a strain of friendly bacteria called Lactobacillus casei which helps put down IgE – an antibody in the blood that stimulate the release of antihistamine.

This causes symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing and watery eyes. A recent study suggests that people who consumed products with friendly bacteria have significantly lower levels if IgE. How does it work? Probiotics or the friendly bacteria L. casei, when in the digestive system, help prevent the immune system from reacting to pollens of other allergens.

Take Control of Your Environment

Getting seasonal allergies does not mean you just need to stay indoors. You can still enjoy a beautiful day but when going outdoors or doing activities such as mowing the lawn or raking leaves, you may want to wear a face mask to protect yourself from pollens and allergens. You can get a simple face mask or one that has HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter.

You can also reduce allergens in the air inside your home by getting a high-efficiency furnace filter. It is best to change it every spring and summer to benefit from it. Using a HEPA filter at home or on your vacuum will also help minimize allergens in the air which can cause allergy symptoms.

Benefits of Exercise for Allergies

Besides keeping you fit, exercise can also help soothe your allergy symptoms. This is because during an allergy attack, the blood vessels in the nose swell and cause congestion.

When working out, the body actually directs the flow of blood to areas that are under stress such as the nose to ease congestion. In fact, you will be able to get relief within just five minutes of exercise. This can last for several hours after working out.

These are some of the ways on how to treat seasonal allergies naturally. If your symptoms get severe, get yourself checked by a health expert. It is advisable to strengthen your body with diet and exercise so that you can better cope with it.
