When it comes to getting a new job, whether you already have one or it’s been awhile since you worked, you may want make sure that your health in in proper form for many reasons. If you are living a healthier lifestyle you will spend less time at the doctor’s office and you will miss less days of work. Not only is that good for you health wise, it also looks good to your new boss.
It’s not really that difficult to get healthy. There are a few simple steps that you can take that will help lead you to a healthier life and a happier time on your new job. It will also help your new employer like you if you are healthy and not missing work.
Don’t Let Stress Get You:
A new job can be a stressful thing. You worry about impressing a new boss or even learning a new trade, and that can make you jumpy and even short tempered. Don’t stress, there are plenty of ways that you reduce stress and prepare for your new job.
Start out by doing a little research on the new company you are going to be working for and on your new position. If you go in there intelligent and prepared you’ll be less stressed, and you will be more likely to impress your boss.
You should also take a break and learn to meditate. Meditation is a great way to relax. It calms your nerves and it will even make it easier to sleep at night. Do some yoga as well, and maybe you won’t have to suffer insomnia the night before you start that new job.
Change Your Eating Habits:
If you are eating a healthy diet it is likely you’ll spend less time visiting the doctor. Low salt, low sugar, and lots of fruits and vegetables are all great ways to avoid and fight off illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure.
Employers like healthy employees because they are able to work better and more efficiently, and this miss less days of work. Make sure you take healthy snacks and lunches to work as well.
Work On Fitness:
Just as important as eating right is, it is also important to make sure that you are getting some physical fitness with that healthy diet. Start walking, jogging, or running each day. Or maybe join a gym. Any amount of fitness over your normal routine is healthy, but you should be getting at least a half an hour a day five days a week.
Stop Your Bad Habits:
If you are a smoker and your new job frowns on smoking, use that is some extra drive to quit this extremely bad habit. Quitting isn’t always easy, but it is a good thing to do, since smoking is bad for you and anyone within reach of your secondhand smoke.
You should also make sure that if you have any other recreational habits you quit them in good time prior to your job, just in case of drug testing. And, of course, for your health!
