Health Benefits of Drinking Water on an Empty Stomach Every Morning

We must have heard that it is good to drink a glass of water first thing upon waking up in the morning; but we may not know the reason why or the tremendous health benefits this act has on our health.

This water therapy has lots of amazing health benefits and it helps to treat a lot of medical conditions.

Drinking water on an empty stomach in the morning originates from ancient Ayurvedic medicine and in Sanskrit this practice is called usha paana chikitsa meaning “early morning water treatment”.

It purifies the body

This practice cleanses the body’s internal systems and flush out toxins from the body. It cleanses the colon and aids the absorption of nutrients.

When we sleep at night, the body cleanses and repairs itself, it packs the toxins and waste materials to be released and flushed out by the excretory systems, and so taking water on an empty stomach in the morning will help this purification process.

When toxins are cleared from the body, the skin will glow, the complexion will be clearer, there will be lower or no incidence of diseases and skin issues will be kept at bay, and the blood flowing around the body will be pure. It also increases the production of new blood cells and muscle cells.

It makes the kidneys healthy

It helps the kidneys to carry out its main function which is elimination; it also combats kidney stones and other kidney problems and infections.

It prevents headaches and migraines

Dehydration is one of the primary causes of chronic headaches and migraines; this act combats all kinds of headaches and migraines and it also helps to prevent dental problems.

It helps one lose weight

It boosts your metabolism in the morning, prevents overeating and cravings and it maintains healthy weight thereby preventing obesity.

It increases the ability of the body to burn more calories during the day and prevent unnecessary snacking during the day. It makes one feel full for a long time and reduce the feeling of hunger.

It makes bowel movement easier

It is good for the digestive system; it prevents constipation because the colon will not need to draw water from the poop in your bowels and it aids regular bowel movement.

This prevents accumulation of waste and toxins in the colon which can lead to diseases and health challenges. It also helps the colon and the digestive system to function optimally and prevents digestive problems.

It hydrates the body

Dehydration can cause lots of problems in the body including serious headaches because the brain is 85% water.

During sleep we lose a lot of water through respiration, so when we wake up in the morning this act will help to refill the body with water thereby replacing lost fluid.

It reduces pains and cramps

This act helps one to reduce unbearable pains including menstrual pains and cramps.

It reduces the symptoms of arthritis

It helps reduce joint inflammation, the major problem of arthritis by restoring fluids in the joints and make movement easy.

It makes the skin beautiful

Taking water on an empty stomach in the morning is one of the best natural ways to take care of your skin and brighten your complexion. It also makes the skin glow, makes it supple, smooth, clear and without blemish.

The skin which is the largest organ in the body tells what goes on in the body by through its appearance; so if the inside of the body is clean and healthy, the skin will show this by radiating normally and if it is not, what we will see is a dried, wrinkled and blemished skin.

This hydrotherapy will correct many internal problems and give us a naturally beautiful skin.

It boosts the immune system

This act supports the immune system and strengthens it, many diseases originate in the gut and stomach, and this also cleans the stomach and gut of waste and toxins, aids digestion and absorption of nutrients and boosts the functions of the immune systems. It also maintains proper functioning of the lymphatic systems and it reduces stress in the body.

To get the full benefits of this practice and to live a healthy life, you have to make this a daily routine till it becomes a habit.

When you wake up in the morning, the first thing to do is to take five to six glasses of water, do not eat or drink anything one hour before and one hour after drinking water and it will be very good if you don’t consume alcoholic beverages before going to bed.

If you feel five or six cups are too much, you can start with a cup and gradually increase it till you can even take a litre of water first thing in the morning upon waking up.
