9 Beauty Habits to Do Before Sleeping

Life is a series of games. We lose some, we win some, skip some and get stuck on some. But, all games have cheat codes at a point, and I’m about to give you some of the major cheat codes for beauty. Ever heard of beauty sleep? Well I know beauty sleep means sleeping healthy and being well rested.

But in this moment in time, I’m telling you that beauty sleep can also mean going to sleep knowing you are going to wake up looking a bit better than you slept. There are some night time tricks you can do to wake up looking more beautiful.

When we sleep, we are at complete rest and our body takes advantage of this to perform some of its functions better. Now the trick is to take advantage of the body’s natural course…. Hence, our cheat code.

1. Remove all of your makeup

When we sleep, our pores open up and our skin undergoes some kind of dermatological patch up. Sleeping with makeup on blocks the pores and disturbs this process which, in most cases, leads to breakouts.

Before going to bed wash your face with warm water and a mild soap and be sure to get rid of all the makeup. Remember to pay more details to the mascaras and lipsticks because they are harder to come off.

2. Cleanse your face

Cleansing your face should be done after washing your face. However, in cases of those extra late nights when you are just too tired to wash your face, cleansing can go a long way to get rid of your makeup.

It’s best to use a mild non- alcoholic face cleanser (non-alcoholic so that your face doesn’t dry up) or a toner. You may be lucky to even find a cleanser that’s also a toner.

For a much more organic product, coconut oil is the way to go. Just put a little on a bit of cotton wool and cleanse your face as you would a normal cleanser. It’s best too because you are also moisturizing your face in the process. You may also use just simple plain wipes.

3. Moisturize

After bathing, apply a light moisturizing cream to your face and body and your body will feel softer in the morning. In place of a cream you may use coconut oil or shea butter as they are both really good organic moisturizers.

However, avoid using shea butter on your face as it’s too heavy for your pores and may clog them, leading to outbreaks. It’s best to apply them immediately you come out of the shower when your body is still a bit wet so that the moisture seals in nicely.

4. Hand and leg creams

Our hands go through a lot during the day and we tend to wash it a lot during the day. But not all of us moisturize it after we wash it and it loses its moisture as a result. But we can make up for that at night.

Apply some hand cream to your hands to moisturize them and the next day you will notice your hand feeling soft and your nails looking healthy. Our legs have the toughest hardest skin on the body and they often get cracked.

Apply leg creams to your legs as well for moisture before you sleep. For an even better effect, wear cotton socks after. Your legs become softer and healthier looking. You can substitute hands and leg creams with shea butter or petroleum jelly as they do an even better job ad are cheaper.

5. Silk/satin pillow case

Using a silk or satin pillowcase is good for your hair as it doesn’t absorb the hair moisture as much as cotton pillow cases do. Cotton pillowcases are also rough on the hair follicles and edges and can damage the hair.

You can substitute this by simply tying a satin scarf on your hair to prevent hair breakage. Also, satin/silk pillow cases don’t leave the same creases on your face as cotton pillow cases do.

6. Pin or pack your hair up

Leaving your hair down before sleeping can be harmful to both your hair and your skin. When the hair is left down, they rub against each other, causing them to break out. Also, they may rub against your face during sleep and all the hair germs, dirt, or moisture gets on the face which may lead to acne.

7. Green Tea

It is no news that green tea has a lot of wonderful benefits. When taken at night before bed, its boosts your metabolism, which normally slows down during sleep, and helps your body burn calories while you sleep. Awesome right? To be able to burn calories while doing absolutely nothing!

8. Eye cream

Apply eye cream to your eyes before you sleep to promote blood flow to the area and to prevent wrinkles from appearing around the eyes so that they look healthier, more beautiful, and more alert in the morning. A good eye cream should contain peptides, anti-oxidants, caffeine, etc.

9. Castor oil for lashes and brows

You may apply castor oil to your eye lashes and eyebrows before sleeping to promote the hair growth giving you fuller brown and longer lashes over time. You can also prepare an eyelash and eyebrow growth combination for a faster result.

Simply mix castor oil, vitamin E oil, aloe Vera gel, and olive oil and there you have it. Dip a bit of cotton bud inside and apply the oil to your lash and brows.

It is quite difficult to keep up with this nightly routine because at most times we are always too tired or exhausted to do all these things before we sleep. Id advice you to get a small night bag which you’d leave beside your bed so that it’ll be easier to reach and it’ll serve as a reminder to perform the routine.

The night bag should contain your cleanser, toner, coconut oil, shea butter, petroleum jelly, castor oil/eyelash and brow oil, cotton bud, cotton wool, eye cream, silk/satin scarf, socks, and any other thing you feel you may need.
