Post-christmas Pounds

Studies have revealed that an average person gains just 1.8 lbs during the festive period. However, it is not guaranteed that every person who bulks up would generally lose that weight during the new year.

A lot of people are worried about gaining extra weight, so if you feel like you’ve added a few pounds during the festivities and you would like to know how to shed them after Christmas, take a look at the five easy way to shed post-Christmas pounds we have shared here.

1. Give away your leftover treats

After regularly eating for more than two weeks, it can be difficult or almost impossible to stop all of a sudden. This is even harder if you have lots of treats in your cupboard.

When people visit for Christmas, most of them will come with food gifts, and you can’t say no to them; neither can you finish all of them before the new year. Don’t feel bad if you still have so many leftovers in your refrigerator after the 1st of January

So, none of us can deny that with all the Christmas goodies leftover in the cupboard or refrigerator, it will not be easy to stick to a healthy diet.

Instead of keeping all those tempting foods that are packed with calories, it is better to give them away to people who you think deserve them. If you cannot find neighbors or friends around, you could donate them to a worthy cause.

This is the best way to stay healthy and not put on some extra pounds after the 1st of January.

2. Drink Water

Second, on the five easy way to shed post-Christmas pounds is to drink lots of water

For a large percentage of us, Christmas and New Year’s Day is spent eating cakes, cookies, chocolate, and all manner of unhealthy foods. This explains why, after the festivities, we have lots of harmful toxins in our system.

One of the easiest ways to get rid of these harmful toxins is to drink lots of clean water. Every day after New Year’s Day, you should make it a duty to drink at least 3/4 of a full gallon of water to flush out the harmful toxins in your system.

If you find it difficult to drink plenty of water, or you struggle even to drink a small amount, we have a few tips you can try to help you take more.

One of the things you can do is to invest in a drinking glass that you like. I find it hard to drink enough water, so I attached a few plastic bands to my water bottle.

Every time I drink water, I take off one of the plastic bands to help me measure the quantity of water I have drunk.

If you don’t like the taste of water, then you can try iced tea, but make sure to opt for the decaffeinated type. You can also add some squeezed lemon juice to your water to give it a refreshing taste.

3. Make plans to shed weight

After the Christmas holidays, a lot of us struggle to get rid of the pounds we have packed on over the festivities.

The reason why we find it challenging to shed weight after Christmas is that we get bored. And even though the month of January is that time where we have to cut back and stay indoors more so that we can address our finances, it can still be a little bit challenging to reset into that mode.

Most of us find ourselves indulging in some comfort eating, especially in January, when we are bored, but that does not help our New Year’s resolution to shed a few pounds. So, what exactly can we do to solve this problem?

To fight off the post-Christmas sadness and boredom, you can make some exciting but affordable plans to keep you excited and stay away from food. You can volunteer at an organization near you or plan a simple getaway with your lover.

4. Protein is your best friend

Would you like to kick your snail-paced post-Christmas metabolism into its normal state so you can shed those extra pounds you have packed on?

Well, you just might be happy to find out that protein is the way out of your metabolism problems. Add about 0.35oz to 0.53 oz (10 to 15 grams) of protein to your breakfast to put your metabolism in shape.

You could try an egg on toast or even some low-fat yogurt with nuts and honey. This is an exciting way to enjoy your breakfast and still achieve your weight loss goal.

After returning from work, make sure that 30 minutes before bedtime, you feed on some dense protein snack.

For this pre-bedtime snack, you could choose some cottage cheese with honey and berries or just a simple protein shake. Feeding on protein before going to bed will help to increase your metabolism while you are asleep.

5. Light A Candle

I don’t know about you, but I know that during the Christmas holidays, many of us consume large amounts of sugar.

When it comes to letting go of the extra weight gathered during the Christmas festivities, it is essential to measure your blood sugar levels.

Because of how unstable sugar levels will be after feeding on too many sweet things over the holidays, we will not be able to avoid the cravings for more unhealthy food. The best way to prevent needs is simply to light a vanilla candle.

A study carried out at St George’s Hospital in London revealed that vanilla-scented patches helped to reduce participants’ cravings for sweet foods and drinks.

It was concluded that the smell of vanilla might help to reduce the desire for sweet things. This New year, make sure that you at least a dozen of vanilla-scented candles in your house and light one every time you have an urge for a munch or drink something sweet.
