15+ Things That Can Harm Your Vagina

Your vaginal health is of utmost importance if you want to be physically well. While the vagina has a self-cleaning mechanism, you should take certain precautions about what you put inside or near it.

Personal hygiene gets often ignored as we strive to keep ourselves ahead in today’s rat race. For women, this is an alarming issue. Hygiene if in case of men is essential, then in case of women it is indispensable. The fact is most women are falling prey to a number of hygiene related conditions: infections, diseases and many more.

This not only applies to busy working women but also to home-keepers. Ignoring personal hygiene stems from this root cause that it is a private affair. In today’s generation we often concentrate on the public image and do not find time to tend to our private issues.

For one, always clean your genitals after urinating: Uric acid is a constituent of urine and after you are done urinating, there are chances that left-over uric acid can lead to infections. Hence wash your genitals properly after urinating. The Top Things that Can Harm Your Vagina.

Douches

Douching does not do a lot of good for your vagina. The combination of water and vagina can upset the pH balance. You might fresher down there after the process, but the douche usually kills off the healthy bacteria which can lead to an increased risk of infections.

Strong soaps

Scrubbing your vagina with strong or scented soaps will cause harm. Instead, you can go in with a light hand because excessive washing will wash off the good bacteria that keep your vagina healthy. If the bad bacteria grow without any restriction, you might suffer from infections.

Harsh wax and razors

You might like to trim your pubic hair to feel clean. However, having full Brazilian waxes done often or shaving regularly will cause lasting damage. The hair is meant to act as a layer of protection, which when removed frequently will leave the skin completely exposed.

OTC infection kits

Diagnosing yourself with a yeast infection and having the requisite medicine might seem like a good idea, but that can be dangerous. Most vaginal infections share similar symptoms, and you might end up treating yourself for the wrong disease. Take some time out to visit a gynaecologist.

Vaginal cleansing products

Over-the-counter cleaning products are not necessary to maintain vaginal health. They are marketing gimmicks more often than not. Instead of helping you, they might make your vagina more prone to infections.

Tight clothing

Your vagina likes to breathe, and that is vital to keeping it healthy. Do not wear very tight underwear or pants that will not allow movements. Sweat and moisture get collected in the vaginal area which can lead to odour and infections.

Vaseline

Petroleum jelly might seem like a cheap alternative to lube but it is not recommended. Not only can it make the affair messy, but it is also difficult to clean which means that it be trapped in your vagina for days. It can also weaken condoms.

Bad underwear

Vagina

Ditching your underwear altogether when you are home is a better idea than wearing old, worn-out underwear. opt for fresh, cotton underwear when you feel the need to wear one because it keeps the moisture at bay.

Alternative vibrators

The temptation to use a phone or an electric toothbrush as a handy vibrator is great, but you should refrain because they can cause irritation or even injury to your vagina. They are also loaded with germs that are passed on.

Edible syrups and creams

If you want to spice up things in the bedroom with some chocolate syrup or whipped cream, then you must be careful not to let them enter the vagina as that can upset the pH balance.

Shave your pelvic region regularly

Do not misunderstand that shaving pelvic hair has anything to do with visual appeal. It is highly recommended to maintain proper hygiene of your genitals.

Do not wear the same underwear the whole day

You at least need to change your underwear twice in a day. Because you sweat, the underwear will become damp and any kind of dampness is a breeding ground for infections.

Switch to Panty liners

Panty liners unlike pads are thin and absorb as much as pads can. So, during the early stages of vaginal discharge, you should use panty liners. They leave no rashes.

Change your pad every 4 hours

Stale blood can pop up several infections you were not aware of. It is essential to change your pad in quick intervals to get rid of the stale blood. It doesn’t quite actually matter how much you are bleeding since after a certain point of time even a drop of blood will become stale and can be potentially harmful.

Wash your genitals after intercourse

Sexual intercourse is the carrier of all the STDs and hence proper precautions need to be taken. Always indulge in safe sex. It is very essential to also be able to trust the partner you are having intercourse with. To be on the safer side, always wash your genitals properly with an antiseptic soap.

Never postpone the urge to urinate

Be it in the middle of an important meeting or a client call, you never should feel inhibited about your urge to urinate. There is nothing to be ashamed of after all – you will be excused any ways if you cite the right reason.

What holding back does is that it puts extra pressure on your kidneys. If you have a weaker kidney, you will always be prone to more infections.

Get rid of the tight bras in your wardrobe

Know the right size of bra you require. Tight bras constrict the blood flow and hence in the worst case might lead to tumours. The most common outcome of wearing a wrong sized bra will be rashes and you know how much of a bother can rash become.

Be aware, be healthy!
