When you don’t have adequate time in the day to get things done, and in this case, the first thing that goes haywire is health and wellness.

To ensure you don’t fall into this trap, you should follow these tips to lead a healthy lifestyle while in college, which will ensure you present the best version of yourself.

Don’t let stress weigh you down

Stress might be as common as breathing nowadays, but there are some effective ways to divest your body and mind off this toxicity. Stress is commonly known to be solely responsible for frequent headaches, unhealthy eating habits, lack of motivation, and poor immune system. So make sure you practice activities like meditation or any other relaxation technique as a method of de-stressing to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout your academic pursuits.

Set personal goals and achieve it

While you may set goals for your assignments and academic career, it is equally important that you set specific goals for your personal life as well. Setting goals is a great way to manage both your personal and professional life. So take some time out from your busy schedule and prepare a list of long-term and short-term goals for yourself, and keep them in a place from where you can look at it every day. This will act as a motivation every day to achieve these goals.

Consume plenty of water

Keeping yourself hydrated will allow you to maintain your focus on the task at hand, and keep you from overeating. It also revitalizes your body and induces more energy to keep you going throughout the day. However, make sure you do not grab a bottle of soda or caffeinated drinks as a substitute of water, and also don’t forget to keep a bottle of water when you are heading out to attend classes.

Binge on healthy snacks

Between pulling all-nighters before the exams, or hanging out with friends, every student indulges in what many would identify as “boredom bingeing”. In this case, you can stock up on the healthier alternatives so that when the late night cravings come knocking, you can satiate your hunger pangs with these snacks. This way you can consume the essential nutrients rather than heaps of sugar and sodium.

Always be attentive towards your body

Your body is like any other device that needs adequate maintenance to function smoothly. In case you haven’t already noticed, your body sends signals whenever something is wrong with your system, and it is crucial that you stay clued in with what your body is trying to convey to you.

For instance, when you are hungry or full, your body will let you know. Similarly, your body can also indicate whenever you are faced with any health issue. So make sure you pay attention to these signals to keep your body fit.

Don’t skip your meals (especially breakfast)

College students are always on the rush and are too caught up with their hectic schedules, which often lead to missing or skipping a meal. Even when you’re buried in books and assignments, the body still needs fuel to function.  Now even when you are not indulging in junk food, but have a prolonged period of gaps before you consume a proper meal can damage your health considerably.

Skipping meals, specifically, breakfast, has quite a few drawbacks like, it slows your metabolism, results in unhealthy food habits and inclination to eat more junk food later, and can even result in weight gain. Eating every 3-5 hours helps your brain to function smoothly and also helps to maintain positivity.

Maintain proper hygiene

Washing your hands and feet and keeping yourself clean is a great practice the students should follow when they can’t afford to skip class because of the flu. Since maintaining proper hygiene is directly related with leading a healthy lifestyle, it’s vital that student pay attention to it.

Moreover, students are used to running around and multitasking between different activities, it’s normal for them to catch a cold and viruses. Hence, it’s important that they maintain proper hygiene. Studies have indicated that simple habits like washing hands can help ward off a huge number of ailments. So, make sure to clean your hands before and after eating your food, or if you’ve been around people who have been sick. In case, water isn’t readily available around you, carry a bottle of hand sanitizer.

Get yourself checked on a routine basis

This is one of the sure-shot ways to keep the flue or any other ailments at bay and stay healthy through the year. Many colleges or universities offer medical checkups, screenings and consultations at a meagre amount. This way you can improve health even when you’re on a tight budget. Also consulting with an expert will allow you to maintain a healthier lifestyle with their proper guidance.

Adopt detoxification technique

College life is probably the most eventful for the students. So having parties and sleepovers are natural. That’s why it’s significant that you adopt a detoxification method to eliminate the buildup of toxins within the body. Detoxification can also offer a great deal of relief from acne breakouts.  You can drink lemon water in the morning or eat a fruit and veggie diet for some days as a process of detoxification.

Don’t get into the habit of smoking

Everybody is familiar with the myriad of life-threatening risks that comes with smoking cigarettes, and even occasionally or passive smoking can also elevate the risk of falling prey to ailments like cardiovascular diseases, or lung cancer to name a few. You can join several support groups, or ask a physician to guide through the process.

Make sure to get sufficient amount of sleep

Even though you may feel compelled to pull an all-nighter to prepare for an upcoming exam or writing essays and assignments, or while partying with friends. You must remember not to make that a habit. Sleep deprivation can hamper the brain functions, trigger fatigue, headaches and weight gain or loss. Students need a solid 7-9 hours of sleep in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. To stay well-rested throughout the day, you can take quick naps in between classes during the day. Also, you can create and maintain a sleep schedule, and keep your room dark and quiet when it’s close to bedtime and avoid eating and drinking caffeine right before hitting the bed.

So with these tips maintaining a healthy lifestyle while multitasking for your academic pursuits won’t seem too tough.
