Our skin a delicate structure with many layers, internally it is lined with oil producing sebaceous glands which produce an oily secretion known as sebum. The sebum is made of fats and helps to moisturize the skin and keep it healthy. There are some conditions which result in excessive secretion of sebum which makes the skin oily and can cause certain skin problems in a long haul.

Some of the main causes of excessive sebum production include, inflammation of sebaceous glands, clogged pores (due to dust or makeup the pores get clogged and in this way the way of sebum is blocked, the clogged pores sometimes end up in infection and acne).
Some of the consequences of oily skin are clogged pores, acne and blackheads etc. Environmental as well as genetic factors control the production of sebum. Some hormonal changes are also like to increase the production of sebum. This is one of the main reason that people at their teen ages are more prone to acne and other kind of skin infections as hormonal imbalance is at peak during this stage of life.

When sebum is produced in excess, it can cause various skin concerns and hence there are some home remedies to make the skin particularly face less oily.
Some of the best proven home remedies to make your facial skin less oily are mentioned below.

1. Regularly wash your face:

You need to wash your face regularly with mild soaps containing glycerin. The use of harsh chemicals on the skin can further aggravate the problem. If your skin is oily you need to wash it on regular basis. Avoid over washing the face as excessive dryness of the skin can also trigger the production of more sebum. Also avoid using harsh soaps with harsh chemicals. Make use of products containing salicylic acid especially if you have clogged pores as it can penetrate deep inside the skin where it purifies the pores and considerable reduction is there in acne.

2. Bloating paper:

Bloating paper is a small piece of paper with tiny holes in it which helps to blot the excessive oil from the surface of skin. The action removes the grease and unnecessary shine from the skin. Most of the people use them as over the counter oil control factor as they are inexpensive and hence they can be used frequently and many times a day.

3. Honey:

There are some amazing antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties in honey which makes it ideal remedy for many skin concerns such as acne, uneven pigmentation, excessive sebum production etc. It is one of the best humectants and helps to moisturize the skin.  For better results and oil free skin, apply it evenly on the skin and wash it off in 10-15 minutes and experience a glow and radiance on the skin.

4. Cosmetic Clay:

The cosmetic clay absorbs excessive oil from the skin as it is natural absorbent. You need to mix cosmetic clay with rose water and make a paste. Apply it on the skin and leave it for few minutes until it dries completely. Wash it off with lukewarm water and get an oil free skin. Don’t talk or laugh while the clay is applied on the face or else you will end up in developing fine lines across certain parts of skin.

5. Mask of Oatmeal:

The mask of Oatmeal when applied can absorb the excessive oil from the skin and also helps in the exfoliation of the skin. Mix it with honey or any mashed fruit and apply it on your face. Oatmeal mixed with honey also helps to purify the skin layers and hence they are effective in the prevention of acne or clogged pores.

6. Lemon:

Apply it on the form of mask and leave it for few minutes until it dries off completely. Avoid exposure to sunlight once you have applied lemon on the skin as it can result in hyper pigmentation.
